Traditionally on Maslenitsa people create and burn huge figure of a woman, which is the symbol of winter. In this project instead of the usual figure, I created a few huge wooden characters. They were inspired by lubok and Russian fairytales. They were supposed to be burn as a part of a performance, but everybody liked them and they were saved. Now they are a part of a farmer’s market decorations.
*Russian lubok – naive popular print, characterized by simple graphics and narrative derived from literature, religious stories, and popular tales. Was popular in 17–19-th centuries.
**Maslenitsa is an Eastern Slavic religious and folk holiday, celebrated during the last week before Great Lent.
